Hailing from Seattle, Alaskan-born singer/songwriter, Rebeqa Rivers, is active in many corners of the Northwest music scene. From appearances with world music group, Abrace, and as featured soloist for the NeoDandi Fashion House's seasonal runway shows, she continues to cross genres.
Growing up steeped in equal parts Woodie Guthrie, Spike Jones, and Benny Goodman, Rebeqa's musical tastes showed an early tendency toward fusion. Heading off to Music Conservatory in Wheaton, Illinois, she majored in the Classical vocal style while moonlighting at local jazz clubs and acting as a guest vocalist with the Chicago Jazz Ensemble.
Moving to Seattle in 2003, Rebeqa dove into the Northwest music scene, bringing Classical technique and an ear for jazz to a thriving Alternative and Indie scene. In 2005 she joined talent with world music group, Abrace, where she continues exploration into the rhythms and melodies of African, South American, Middle Eastern, Asian, and Eastern European musics.
As a songwriter, Rebeqa is a gifted storyteller, boldy dressing vibrant and often humorous lyrics in her signature style of well-tailored fusion. There's no telling where her stories will take you, but they're likely to make you homesick for places you've never been.
